Bayern Munich have received a major boost in their efforts to keep Dayot Upamecano, with reports indicating that the French defender is no longer considering a move to the Premier League — a blow to Liverpool’s long-standing interest.
According to Christian Falk, while Liverpool are exploring defensive reinforcements amid uncertainty over Ibrahima Konaté’s future, Upamecano has narrowed his next move to just three clubs: Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
Premier League Clubs Not in Upamecano’s Plans
Falk told CF Bayern Insider that the 26-year-old centre-back has no Premier League clubs on his shortlist, despite previous links to Liverpool.
“It’s not good news for Liverpool fans. There are only three clubs in Upamecano’s mind: Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain,” Falk said. He added that Bayern are hopeful of extending his contract, though interest from the Champions League holders and PSG remains strong.
Real Madrid, who could lose Antonio Rüdiger and David Alaba next year, are expected to push hard for defensive reinforcements. PSG, meanwhile, want to build a squad that mirrors the French national team, making Upamecano a natural fit.
Kompany a Key Factor in Bayern’s Favour
One factor playing in Bayern’s favour is Upamecano’s admiration for head coach Vincent Kompany.
Falk revealed: “Upamecano is a big fan of Kompany and enjoys working with him. This gives Bayern a real advantage in this transfer battle.”
While coaches like Luis Enrique and Xabi Alonso also offer strong appeal, Bayern believe Kompany’s influence could convince the defender to renew his contract at the Allianz Arena.
Why Top Clubs Want Upamecano
Upamecano, who has made 15 appearances for Bayern this season, considers himself among the best defenders in world football — and his numbers support that claim.
- 92.2% pass accuracy per 90 in the Bundesliga
- 0.54 chances created per 90 in Europe
- 80% aerial duel success in the Champions League
FotMob ratings place him 15th among centre-backs in the Champions League this season, but he remains Bayern’s top-performing defender statistically.
With his contract running down and his form attracting interest from Europe’s elite, Bayern, Real Madrid and PSG are locked in a tight race — but Liverpool, for now, are out of the picture.
