Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim said on Friday that several out-of-favour players could be handed a “new life” at Old Trafford if they fail to secure transfers before the summer window closes.
Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia have been training away from the first-team squad. Although the club is open to moving them on, interest in the quartet has stalled due to Manchester United’s transfer valuations.
Amorim suggested that, should no deals materialize before the September 1 deadline, the players could be reintegrated into his plans.
“I know it’s not a good situation to have players training apart, but it’s clear they want to play for different clubs,” Amorim said on Friday.
“We’re trying to find a solution that works for everyone. I have to train with the players I believe are part of the club’s future, but the others are also training and preparing for their next chapter.
When the window is closed, it’s a different story. We have to welcome them back—and then, a new life. Anything can happen.”
Transfer Situations
- Alejandro Garnacho has been strongly linked with Chelsea.
- Antony is reportedly wanted back by Real Betis after a successful loan spell.
- Jadon Sancho’s exit is complicated by his high wages, reportedly around £350,000 ($470,000) per week.
Premier League Struggles Continue
Despite a promising performance, United began their Premier League campaign with a 1-0 loss to Arsenal last weekend. The only goal of the game, scored by Riccardo Calafiori, came after an error from goalkeeper Altay Bayindir.
Bayindir started in place of Andre Onana, who was sidelined with a hamstring injury for most of pre-season. Although Onana is expected to return for Sunday’s match against Fulham, Amorim stopped short of confirming the change.
“Onana is ready to play like last week, so we will see in the game who is going to be the goalkeeper,” said the Portuguese manager.
